Ooops I did it again
Well who would have thunk it… we now have two miniature dachshunds. Some of you may have already seen Moxie on the Savvy Club drawing video clip last week, she is our new addition and, as I said to Pat, she is not for us, she is for Vinny!
I spend so much time writing that poor Vinny sometimes gets a bit frustrated with me not playing with him when he wakes up! Being a LBE, he has a lot of energy, high play drive and I finally decided that he should have a playmate.
I emailed Cheri, his breeder, in the hopes that she would sell me his sister, Ginger, but Cheri said she just couldn’t part with her and possibly Vinny’s mother was pregnant again. In adding up the months, I decided to go shopping for a puppy rather than wait. It’s a busy summer, we’ve got a bit of travel coming up and I really wanted to get Vinny a playmate sooner rather than later.
So I found Moxie. We went to pick her up a week ago and I remember us looking into the crate and gasping at how tiny and cute she was. About 3 hours later I remember saying to myself “What was I thinking?!” Now I’ve got two puppies to deal with and only one is house-trained!
But that worry didn’t last long. Moxie turned out to be so cuddly and so much fun, she’s actually quite feisty and Vinny just loves her.
I’m trying to figure out her doganality and I think she is RBE. She’s every bit as playful and spirited as Vinny but less independent, more interested in leadership. We’ll see, it’s only been a week and she’s only 8 weeks old. And today as I sat in the sun with Vinny and Moxie for about 10 minutes, I was thoroughly entertained by her jumping all over him wrestling his head and biting his ears… and so was Vinny.
I should mention here that Pat chose her name and it’s right on. She has a lot of moxie!
Yours Naturally,
Linda

Ha! Good luck with them entertaining each other and giving you peace! We tried that too, they ALL want my attention when I’m writing on the lap top! One even puts her paw on the keyboard and we have two big dogs and one little cutie that has just joined the family when my niece came to live with us. When I’m on the phone they wrestle at my feet and the racket they make is unbelievable, just like toddlers!
5 years ago…I did a “Whoops, what was I thinking ?” when I bought a yearling colt on an impulse………….sometimes I still find myself murmuring that same sentiment to myself…..
Congrats on the new baby! She is very cute.
In Redmond this year we sat in the very top seats near the back entrance. My husband saw you carrying Vinnie in the arena and ask me “Is that a ferret”?
LOL all I can say is it must have been a combination of Vinnie’s tail, coloring and my husbands 60+ year old eyes.
Well we know first hand about Doxie’s (Dacshunds) we had one enter out lives 4 years ago and I was not very sure but she turned out to the so wonderful that 3 years ago we added another one to our family. Skidder was our first dacschund black and tan short haired, laided back, loving and loves cuddles; the second is Sarah, 3 years old now, long haired, busy and busy but both love everyone, she visits that studs and the foals and the mares, the cats and our other dogs in the family just could not imagine life with out them and we have also resued another one recently.
I am so excited you decided to get a doxy. The are the most wonderful breed and my life was not the same since I got her. Congratulations.
Linda,
Congrats on your new baby – she’s adorable! When I was a child, my dad had a laborador named “Moxie”. She was very special to him. The other day, I found myself thinking about her for the first time in years, and was REALLY surprised when I saw the drawing video and learned the name of your new pup! I hope she will be as special to you as ours was for us!
I have had weenie dogs since I was a kid. I love them! We have three minis now. They have no fear at all of my horses, luckly my horses tolerate them really well when they get out to a pasture. I enjoyed seeing Vinnie in FTW last year and look forward to seeing Miss Moxie!
Thanks for sharing!
I’m picking up a seven week old black lab girl called Izzie on Sunday!!!! Can’t wait. I chose the quiet one but she’s transformed into the wild one, a big LBE I reckon. My first dog and she is sooooo cute. Just hope my 2 cats don’t leave……
They are adorable, Linda. Does Pat still have his special cattle dogs? Don’t see them much.
Yes he does, he’s got two super new ones that are starting to work cattle very well

Moxie looks just beautiful. Lots of fun for you and Vinnie. I am also houstraining a new baby (cairn Terrier). Isnt it fun at 5am on frosty grass waiting waiting waiting. The colouring of your dachshunds are so interesting. I dont think we get those downunder.?? So precious. Must try out doganality on this one. cheers!
I don’t own one but after seeing your two I may just have to try this out! They are really adorable and I wish you all the best travelling with them.
Well I’m a convert now – never had small dogs before. And it’s fun reading all the other comments about how many dachshunds some of you have! Oh my gosh, 5… 6… !!! They are so adorable.
Linda
Watch your riding boots, they carry lots of funny smells and a good excuse to chew for leaving us along for soooo…long.
Vinny ears and playtimes will never be enough,
Take care
Guylaine
Boy do I know you can’t just have one! I have 6!
I know, you can’t have just one!!! haha
I told Pat in Redmond that you can’t have just one Doxie! We have five minature dachshunds and love every single one of them. Even when they are pushing me out of the bed in the middle of the night! I even have one that goes absolutely nuts, if she sees that I am riding. She loves to ride with me, the trot is her favorite gait, I think because her ears flop so much
They will be good partners for one another……good luck with them and remember what one doesn’t get into the other will….enjoy
I have another “horsey” friend who has one of the wee long haired noodles too. She’s a complete hoot, running between the horse’s hooves with no fear at all (worries me, I have to admit).
Can’t wait to see them show up in your videos.
Thanks for posting the picture so we could see her too.
Nancy, smiling
Two are better than one : ) Congratulations!!

Love the puppy, we have 4 and travel with at least two of them regularly – it’s fun!
I’m interested though, is the same personality (or horsenality) system developed for a prey animal equally applicable to a predator? (eg dog or human)
I’v heard lots of my Parelli friends referring to all the animals in their lives, equine and otherwise using horsaenality terminology…
In my opinion, yes!
Vinny is definitely Left-Brain Extrovert, and I’m pretty sure Moxie is a confident Right-Brain Extrovert. It really helps to know the horsenality / doganality / personality of another because then you know how to approach them and what their approach or behavior might be like towards you.

They’re such cuties! As much as I love my horses, my dogs offer unconditional love that can’t be replaced. Traveling with puppies, however, lots of luck with that! LOL
